Introduction

This guide demonstrates the application of the Hybrid Racing Super Sealant to a Hybrid Racing Honda K-Series throttle body (HYB-RSK-00-05); the same process applies to most throttle bodies if they open and close the same way.

If you are using a different throttle body, before applying Super Sealant, confirm the direction in which the butterfly plate opens.

This is critical because the graphite sealant must be applied only to surfaces that make a single point of contact — never where the coating would overlap or cross itself as the plate moves.

In the example shown below (Hybrid Racing K-Series throttle body), Super Sealant is applied only along the lower edge of the inlet side and the upper edge of the exit side of the throttle plate, where they contact the bore. The remaining edges are left uncoated.

This ensures that when the plate closes, the sealant breaks contact cleanly rather than sweeping through the seal.

    • If your throttle body was previously sealed, you may need to use acetone to remove any OEM sealant or residue.

    • Wear gloves to keep your hands clean and avoid contaminating the surfaces.

    • Shake the Hybrid Racing Super Seal marker for 10 seconds.

    • Remove the cap and dab the tip on a clean surface until the fluid begins to flow evenly, then replace the cap until you’re ready to apply. (Image 2)

  2. Goal: Ensure the throttle plate and bore are completely clean before applying Super Seal. Use alcohol prep pads to clean the throttle plate and inner bore thoroughly (Image 1) Focus on the edges of the throttle plate and the areas where the plate rests. They must be completely free of oil, debris, and other residue. (Image 2 & Image 3)

    • If your throttle body was previously sealed, use acetone to remove any leftover OEM sealant.

    • Allow all surfaces to dry for at least 60 seconds before moving to the next step.

    • DO NOT apply sealant to a damp or dirty surface — this can prevent proper adhesion and cause uneven sealing.

  3. Do not open the throttle plate for at least 6 hours after applying Super Seal. DO NOT PRESS DOWN ON THE MARKER INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY. The graphite may flood out of the pen and apply too much. Dab the pen on a scrap piece of paper to prime the pen. Goal: Apply Super Sealant to the lower inlet side of your throttle body in an even layer around the lower edge of the throttle plate where it contacts the bore, as shown in the first image.

    • Start: Place the tip of the marker on the left above the throttle shaft. Following the pink arrow, draw a smooth, even line along the lower edge of the throttle plate where it meets the bore. (Image 1)

    • Finish: Finish just above the throttle shaft on the right side of the throttle body, remove the marker, and place the cap back on. (Image 1)

    • Try not to pick the pen up from the throttle plate once you start. You may have to draw the line a few times to get a nice, smooth, even layer of sealant. (Image 2)

    • The sealant should be applied to the throttle body wall and on the throttle plate at the same time. The coating should be thin and even. Avoid pooling or overlap.

    • Application of the Super Sealant is now complete for the inlet side of your throttle body. Once cured, the Super Seal will appear dark gray. (Image 3)

    • The application of the Super Sealant is now complete on the exit side of your throttle body. Hold the throttle body up to a light or shine a flashlight from the backside of the throttle plate to confirm a correct sealant application. Once cured, the Super Seal will appear dark gray. (Image 3)

  5. After allowing the throttle body to set for at least 6 hours, gently open and close the throttle plate to break the seal. Confirm the plate moves freely and returns to the closed position without resistance or drag. Goal: Verify smooth operation and confirm the throttle body is ready for installation.

    • Inspect your work:

    • Image 1 shows the inlet side of the throttle body cracked open, with red arrows indicating the coating on the bore and pink arrows marking the sealant on the plate edge. (Image 1)

    • Image 2 shows the exit side of the throttle body cracked open, with red arrows indicating the coating on the bore and pink arrows marking the sealant on the plate edge. (Image 2)

    • Once movement is smooth and consistent, and the super sealant is clearly visible on all surfaces, as shown, your throttle body is ready to install.

    • Each Hybrid Racing Super Sealant marker can coat approximately 3–5 throttle bodies, depending on the bore size and application thickness.

Conclusion

Each Hybrid Racing Super Seal marker can coat approximately 3–5 throttle bodies, depending on the bore size and application thickness.
